About Kent and Medway Medical School
Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) is one of England's newest medical schools (first intake 2020), a partnership between the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University. The five-year MBBS programme trains students at hospitals across Kent and Medway — including Medway Maritime Hospital, William Harvey Hospital (Ashford), Kent and Canterbury Hospital, and Maidstone Hospital. The school was established to address severe doctor shortages in Kent and Medway, which have among the worst GP-to-population ratios in England.
The curriculum emphasises primary care, community medicine, and the social determinants of health. Canterbury offers historic beauty, cultural richness, and easy London/European connectivity (the Channel Tunnel is in Kent). For UK students, KMMS offers a community-focused medical education in England's 'Garden of England,' specifically designed to produce doctors committed to serving Kent's underserved populations.
