Built for UK Home Students

Every goal we set is measured against one question: does this make it easier for a capable UK student to become a doctor? If the answer is yes, we pursue it relentlessly. If not, we cut it. Medicine Clearing exists for one purpose — to ensure that UCAS rejection is never the end of a medical career.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Medicine Clearing's placement success rate?
We maintain a 98% placement success rate for UK home students. This means 98 out of every 100 students who follow our recommended pathway secure a confirmed place at a GMC-recognised medical university. The remaining 2% typically withdraw voluntarily due to changes in personal circumstances.
How many universities does Medicine Clearing work with?
We work with over 250 GMC-recognised medical universities across more than 40 countries. Every partner institution has been vetted for teaching quality, English-language programme availability, clinical training standards, and graduate outcomes.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes, absolutely. Our initial strategy consultation is completely free with no obligation. We assess your academic profile, discuss your goals, and outline which GMC-recognised universities match your grades and budget. There is no pressure to proceed and no hidden fees.
How quickly will you respond to my enquiry?
We guarantee a personalised response within 24 hours. During peak periods (August-October), we typically respond within 2-4 hours because we understand how time-sensitive medical admissions decisions can be.
What does end-to-end support mean?
We handle every stage: initial consultation and university matching, application preparation, entrance exam coaching, visa paperwork, accommodation sourcing, airport transfers, orientation, ongoing academic check-ins, and finally PLAB/UKMLA preparation and NHS Foundation Year application guidance.
Does Medicine Clearing guarantee a medical school place?
While no ethical consultancy can guarantee unconditionally, our 98% success rate speaks for itself. If you meet minimum requirements (typically BBB-AAA at A-Level with Biology and Chemistry) and follow our pathway, you will almost certainly receive at least one confirmed offer.
What happens if I don't get an offer?
In the rare event initial applications are unsuccessful, we activate our backup protocol: applications to alternative universities with later deadlines, foundation year programmes, and January-start programmes. We work with you until a suitable place is secured.
Are all partner universities GMC-recognised?
Yes. Every university we recommend is listed on the GMC's recognised medical schools register. Graduates can sit the PLAB/UKMLA examination and register to practise in the UK. We never recommend institutions that would leave graduates unable to return to the NHS.
Can Medicine Clearing help with UCAS clearing?
We can advise on UCAS Clearing strategy, but medicine places through Clearing are extremely rare — typically fewer than 20 across all UK medical schools. For most students, a European pathway offers far greater certainty of securing a place.
What A-Level grades do I need?
Most partner institutions accept UK students with BBB to AAA at A-Level, with Biology and Chemistry being essential. Some universities accept ABB or BBC for foundation year programmes. Unlike UK medical schools, European universities assess A-Level grades directly.
Do I need UCAT for European medical schools?
No. European medical schools do not require UCAT or BMAT scores. Some have their own entrance examinations covering Biology, Chemistry, and basic Maths/Logic — we provide preparation materials and coaching for these.
How long does the application process take?
From initial consultation to confirmed offer typically takes 2-6 weeks depending on the university. Some offer conditional acceptances within days. During peak season (July-September), we operate on accelerated timelines.
Can my parents be involved in the process?
Absolutely. We encourage parental involvement and often conduct consultations with the whole family. Parents naturally have questions about safety, costs, accommodation, and career outcomes. We provide direct access to our team throughout the process.
Is studying medicine abroad safe for UK students?
Yes. Our partner universities are in safe EU-member countries with excellent healthcare systems and established international student communities. Cities like Prague, Budapest, and Bratislava have thousands of British students and dedicated English-speaking support services.
What support is available after I arrive?
Our support continues throughout your degree: ongoing academic check-ins, peer network access, local registration guidance, student society connections, and a dedicated support manager. In later years, we assist with PLAB preparation and NHS Foundation Year applications.
How much does tuition cost at European medical schools?
Fees typically range from £5,000 to £16,000 per year depending on country and institution. Combined with lower living costs, the total investment is often comparable to or less than studying in the UK.
Can I return to the NHS after studying abroad?
Absolutely. Every university we recommend is GMC-recognised, meaning graduates can sit the PLAB/UKMLA and register with the GMC. Thousands of NHS doctors qualified at European medical schools. We support students through every step of the return process.
What is the PLAB exam?
PLAB is a two-part GMC examination: PLAB 1 (written knowledge test) and PLAB 2 (clinical skills OSCE). From 2025, it's being replaced by the UKMLA — both UK and international graduates will take the same exam, creating a level playing field.
Do European degrees have the same quality as UK ones?
Yes. GMC-recognised European schools must meet the same educational standards as UK institutions. Many are centuries-old with world-class research and clinical training. The curriculum meets EU Directive 2005/36/EC standards.
How is Medicine Clearing different from other consultancies?
We focus exclusively on UK home students, only recommend GMC-recognised universities, provide genuine end-to-end support through to NHS registration, maintain a verified 98% placement rate, and our consultations are always free. Our entire team specialises in medical admissions.
